It’s that time of year. The challenges of summer – like trying to schedule interviews around everyone’s vacation schedules – are behind us. The pressure of third-quarter hiring goals are upon us. And hiring managers are eager to fill roles fast. All of this makes the back-to-school season one of the best times of the year for hiring. So while parents are checking off their kids’ back-to-school lists, recruiters are checking up on their own lists. Are you ready?
To ensure you’re prepared to get hired fast, there are some things you’ll want to have done.
First, make sure you’re up on your research. Know what you want to do, and what types of companies you want to do it for. Be able to talk passionately and knowledgeably about the roles you’re interested in.
You’ll also want to look into the financial health of the industries and companies you’re interested in. Are they healthy, hiring, and predicted to grow? If so, your chances of finding a job are much better.
Definitely see to it that your online profiles, resume, and portfolio speak to that job you want. Companies need to fill positions quickly and if you’re ready, you can apply to new listings before anyone else – potentially putting yourself at an advantage by being seen as on top of the search.
Finally, make sure you’re leaving your current role on a good note. If possible, time your departure with the successful completion of projects, give sufficient notice, and train others to pick up where you left off. Leave no burnt bridges in your wake.
