Struggling to Plan Your Next Vacay? Here is Why You MUST Take Time Off This Summer:

vacationSummer: tank tops, beaches, sandals, the smell of fresh-cut grass, ice cream- I could go on. But unless you work in the corporate world, summer has a fairly different connotation. This means for us “9 – 5”ers, all rules still apply and we continue to power through our daily grind until we cross that finish line on a Friday afternoon. And in case you haven’t heard, Americans do not have the best reputation when it comes to taking time off, which is why summer is the perfect time to blow off some steam, refuel and re-energize for your most productive year yet!

Stop and think for a second. Do you know why today’s employees are not racing to the beaches when summer approaches? Research from a recent CNN study revealed that those who choose not to utilize their vacation time have various reasons. Come to find out, many workers are extremely cautious of being seen as a slacker or often feel guilty when engaging in a leisurely activity by not doing something productive. Or, more often than not, workers anticipate the heavy workload they will return to post vacation.

The only problem is that too much work can result to a detrimental work-life balance.

CNN also revealed that in 2013 “U.S. workers forfeited $52.4 billion in time-off benefits and took less vacation time than at any point in the past four decades.”

Taking a vacation can improve your wellbeing at work in the following ways:

  • Time away from the office will boost happiness and productivity
  • A vacation will give you a chance to refuel, therefore boosting inspiration and creative thinking
  • Getting outside of your comfort zone will open up the door for more networking opportunities
  • Giving your mind a break will prepare you with a fresh outlook to take on future projects at work
