Whether it’s a 9:00 a.m. project deadline on Monday morning or a 4 a.m. wake-up call by a screaming baby, a working mom is the closest thing there is to wonder woman. She makes juggling multiple tasks look like a walk in the park. With all these demands and being pulled in multiple directions, how does one woman manage to complete these tasks successfully?
Outsiders view working moms as multi-talented individuals; however, working mothers struggle to actually see themselves in this light. There are only a certain number of hours in a day and working moms must try to condense a heavy workload, along with family life, into every single day.
Some mothers find it necessary to bring work home instead of spending hours at the office – however even though this may appear to be “family time,” in actuality, work is still on the brain. A great way to prevent this from occurring is to talk to your employer about adjusting your hours where you have the option of coming to work later in the morning or leaving earlier in the afternoon – this allows more time to devote to your family.
For some women, it’s natural to allow work to be a top priority, especially single working mothers, where it’s a necessity to provide for their families. If an employer doesn’t allow you leeway or flexibility, like working from home or adjusting your schedule, make sure to take advantage of the precious time available on nights, weekends and holidays to spend with family.
The similarities that wonder woman and a working mom share or rather, don’t share, are their responsibilities. When a woman makes the commitment to be loyal to her job, children and household responsibilities, it’s a commitment she takes on all on her own – but it doesn’t have to be. It’s very challenging for a woman to speak up and ask for a helping hand, but it’s a healthier alternative in the long run to request assistance from a spouse or family member who can provide some relief from the stresses that a working mother encounters.
Women have endured a long journey in order to gain the right to work at an equal capacity as men, and should not have to choose between work and family. Working mothers continue to be an inspiration to all women by providing reassurance that it is possible to be a successful business woman and raise a family.
