Employers seeking technically savvy workers.

Recruiters and CEOs have some advice for the workforce:  Invest in yourself and become skilled in the technical arena.  Companies are putting off hiring in search of candidates they don’t have to spend money training.  Today, it should be a given that workers have a certain amount of technical savvy.  Workers must take it upon themselves to understand the latest software used in their fields.

That doesn’t mean an employee has to be, for example, the best programmer in the world.  It’s more about that employee being a problem solver – being familiar enough with technical gadgets to “figure it out.”

What are those technical aspects?  Anything from video conferencing, smartphones, online databases, email and file-sharing, and even working remotely.

Other skills in high demand?  Wide-ranging skill sets (aka, being able to take on multiple tasks versus being an expert in one narrow subject), as well as interest in expanding existing skill sets; formal education; and bilingual abilities.
